Headquartered in London, Baronsmead is an independent, specialist risk consultant and broker providing financial risks insurance, guidance and advice to the alternative investment management industry.
Baronsmead provides managers and their funds with risk transfer protection from the legal, regulatory, operational and employment risks they face. In recent years, Baronsmead has managed and settled around $20m of manager and fund claims in the UK, New York, Cayman Islands and BVI. Hands-on claims management is key, which is why we have our own insurance litigation solicitor in-house.
Our risk reviews and proprietary risk mapping tools mean that we fully understand clients’ risks and are better placed to represent these to the insurance market, allowing us to secure improved coverage and terms. We are committed to working as an integral part of our clients’ risk management team and believe that we can alleviate much of the burden involved in purchasing insurance.
Our clients range from long established funds to start-ups for whom we have a dedicated advisory team. We currently provide insurance services to over 80 fund management groups and in excess of 500 funds, with combined assets under management of approximately $180 billion.
Like most of our clients, Baronsmead is an owner managed business, which means we focus on providing excellent client service and exceeding expectations. Having clients’ claims paid is key and we look to sell products that work and which are placed with insurers that have a good track record of paying valid claims. We continue to invest significant resources into our infrastructure and recruit the very best professionals with the knowledge to understand our clients’ businesses. We have the largest dedicated hedge fund financial risks insurance team in London.
We work with specialist external insurance brokers for general and employee benefit insurance. This allows our clients to obtain specialist insurance advice for every product, as opposed to dealing with generalists. As Lloyd’s brokers, we have access to all insurers, leading company markets as well as Lloyd’s syndicates. This allows us to provide a wide spread of pricing and products.
